Q:
When will the Chicago-Main Newsstand in Evanston reopen?
A: It opened on Thursday, June 14th, 2001
at 7am. For more information
Q: I know
of a magazine that I think you should carry. Will you carry it?
A: We pride ourselves on having the largest and best
selection of magazines around and we'd be happy to consider your magazine. You can
e-mail our buyer at buyer@citynewsstand.com .
You must keep in mind, though, that some magazines are just not interested in doing
newsstand distribution. Also, while City Newsstand believes strongly in free speech,
we aren't going to carry anything blatantly illegal or in obvious violation of local
community standards.
Q: Does
City Newsstand sell books?
A: City Newsstand has the best selection of
magazines in Chicagoland, but we only carry a handful of books. We're not really a
bookstore any more (see "How long has City Newsstand been in business?")
the nearest decent-sized bookstore is Barnes & Noble at Touhy & Central at the
Village Crossings shopping center. Their telephone number is 847-329-8460.
Q: Does
City Newsstand carry back issues of magazines?
A: No. Only the current issues of over 6,000
magazines and about 60 newspapers. For back issues, the publisher is usually your
best resource. In Morton Grove, IL there is a store called Magazine Memories that
sells used collectible magazines. Their phone number is 847-470-9444.
Q: I don't
live in Chicago. Can I buy magazines from you by phone or e-mail?
A: No, We're sorry, but we don't offer that service at this time.
For a selection of offbeat magazines, you might try www.zinemart.com. For a more general selection,
try www.magsnow.com.
Q: When
does the Reader come in?
A: Thursday evenings.
Q:
Where
in Chicago is City Newsstand located?
A: We're in the heart of the Northwest Side of Chicago,
halfway between the Loop and O'Hare Airport, near the junction of the Kennedy and Edens
expressways. Our address is 4018 N. Cicero, which is about 200 feet north of Irving
Park Road. We're on the west side of the street, right across from Sears.
Q: What
are the store's hours?
A: City Newsstand is open from 7 am to 11 pm seven days a week. Chicago-Main
Newsstand is open from 7 am to 10 pm seven days a week. Both are closed on Thanksgiving and Christmas Day.
Q: Does
City Newsstand really have the best selection of magazines in Chicago?
A: Yes. In fact we offer a $10 reward, paid to any
person who brings in a magazine that we don't carry, purchased recently from any other
newsstand in the Chicago area. (Limit one reward per person. Verification of
identity required.)
Q: How
long has City Newsstand been in business?
A: We opened our doors on January 2nd, 1988. Before
that, there had been a bookstore on this property. Joe Angelastri had owned the
newsstand on the corner since he was only 18 years old. He took over the bookstore's
lease and gradually changed it into what he'd always dreamed of -- the largest newsstand
around.
Q: Is
there parking?
A: There is ample metered street parking on Cicero
and around the corner on Milwaukee. In addition, we're right across the street from
Sears and the Marketplace at Six Corners, which has free parking for hundreds of cars.
Q: How do
I get there on the CTA?
A: The 56 Milwaukee, 80 Irving Park, and 50 Cicero
busses all stop within 300 feet of our front door. The Irving exit of the Blue Line
lets you off about 6 blocks away. You can walk or transfer to the 80 Irving Park
