CITY OF CHICAGO HONORS CITY NEWSSTAND On May 16, 2003, at a luncheon meeting of the Portage Park Chamber of Commerce, Alderman Patrick J. Levar (45th Ward) presented City Newsstand owner Joe Angelastri with a City Council resolution (below) honoring City Newsstand for providing “the readers of Chicago with a valuable resource for some twenty-five years.” 4/9/2003 AGREED CALENDAR 107161 Presented By ALDERMAN LEVAR (45th Ward): CONGRATULATIONS EXTENDED TO MR. JOE ANGELASTRI ON TWENTY-FIFTH ANNIVERSARY OF CITY NEWSSTAND. WHEREAS, Joe Angelastri, proprietor of the City Newsstand, has provided the readers of Chicago with a valuable resource for some twenty-five years; and WHEREAS, Originally opened at 4002 North Milwaukee Avenue on May, 16,1978, the City Newsstand began as a sole proprietorship and was incorporated in 1991 under the official name of City News, Inc.; andWHEREAS, Success ultimately demanded that the City Newsstand move to bigger quarters and so the operation was relocated to 4018 North Cicero Avenue where it remains today, employing fifteen people from and around the community; and WHEREAS, The City Newsstand is recognized as a premiere source for reading materials of all types and has been named by the Chicago Magazine as the “Best Newsstand” and has been featured on local television broadcasts including WTTW’s Wild Chicago, WGN Morning News, Fox Morning News; and WHEREAS, Testimonials from customers name the City Newsstand as the “Best Place To Buy Magazines” and the Chicago Tribune magazine carried an article about the newsstand and its value to the community; andWHEREAS, Proprietor Joe Angelastri is a long time active member and (former) officer of the Portage Park Chamber of Commerce. He has carved a niche for himself and in the process provided a valuable resource to the community and Chicago; now, therefore,Be It Resolved, That we, the Mayor and members of the Chicago City Council gathered here this ninth day of April, 2003, do hereby offer our heartiest congratulations to Joe Angelastri on the occasion of the twenty-fifth anniversary of the City Newsstand and extend our gratitude for his making certain that the Portage Park community and Chicago at large remain “in the know”; andBe It Further Resolved, That a suitable copy of this resolution be prepared and presented to Joe Angelastri. |
