I've been away for a few days and was delighted to come back
to a forecast of snow so that Winter and I can say our formal
goodbyes.
A few weeks ago we told you
about the new LIFE special, Hidden America. LIFE has put out
a new, equally spectacular special called Wonders of the World.
From the Empire State Building to the Great Pyramid of Khufu, from the
Galapagos Islands to Victoria Falls, LIFE Wonders of the World
features the breathtaking photography you've come to expect from
them. My personal favorite is a gorgeous photo of a lionfish that
has to be seen to be believed.
The
long-awaited Esquire Big Black Book is finally here! It's the
style manual for successful men.
The
issue of People with a much-retouched, bikini-clad, 48-y.o. Valerie
Bertinelli on the cover also contains an exclusive interview with
Bolingbrook resident Drew Peterson, whose wives seem to have a funny habit
of coming to mysterious ends.

According to this week's Variety, Steven Spielberg and
LOTR's Peter Jackson are cooking up a new franchise together.
"The Adventures of TinTin" will feature a new take on motion
capture CGI that supposedly has to bee seen to be comprehended.
Spielberg directed the motion-capture shoot for the first film and Peter
Jackson will then oversee all the CGI down in New Zealand. Jackson
is expected to direct the next installment of what is planned as a 3
picture run. We can't wait to see what they've cooked up!

I
see from the latest issue of Nostalgia Digest that Chuck Schaden
will be retiring this year. For those of you not familiar with Mr.
Schaden, he's been the voice of Old Time Radio in Chicagoland for nearly
forty years, hosting the program "Those Were The Days" on WLTD,
WNIB and WDCB, featuring recordings from the Golden Age of Radio. He
worked here at Six Corners for many years as well, at the old Northwest
Federal Savings. He also edited a group of community newspapers here
on the northwest side and is now Editor Emeritus of Nostalgia Digest.
Enjoy your retirement Chuck! You deserve it!
